West Mountain Racing
West Mountain is abuzz with activity at this time of year. With ample snowfall, cold temperatures and super energetic kids, the West Mountain Racing (WMR) program is a natural fit for kids of all ages.
With a mission stated to “develop and educate young ski racers in order to help them achieve their dreams, aspirations, and goals both on and off the snow. WMR’s program offers a premier alpine ski racing, training, teaching, coaching, and race tuning venue for success in ski racing as well as other areas of character such as work ethic and sportsmanship.”
For the younger kids, the fantastic West Mt. Race Team Intro to Racing program features a fun, non-competitive, non-travel ski race program for all mountain skiers ages 6-14. Be ready to be challenged by all types of terrain and snow conditions as the race coaches help each participant develop the fundamental movements, skills, and tactics used by the world’s best skiers in a fun learning environment.
There are multiple programs offered throughout the season. Meeting Monday through Thursday, 9am-2pm, the cost of this program includes a daily lift ticket, but does not include lunch.
West Mt. racing programs are also available for USSA and high school ski team athletes to join as well, participating in an academy-like training (5-6 days of training a week) with travel and race tuning.
Not into skiing? WMR also has a snowboard and freeski program from early January until mid-March.
Private coaching sessions are also available.
WMR believes that every child should have a chance to follow an athletic dream, regardless of financial situation. Scholarships are available through the West Mountain School, West Mountain’s 501© non-profit program that helps support fundraising and promotion of ski racing at West Mountain through safety and technical equipment, financial scholarships, and fostering a sense of community and volunteer service. WMS believes, “a child who participates in athletics is more likely to be happy and healthy while becoming well-rounded and acquiring many skills and disciplines that will allow her/him to realize their goals and dreams throughout their lifetime.”
Offering need-based scholarships for full and partial WMR program memberships, prospective students can fill out the seasonal application to be considered.
