Governor's Office For Small Cities (GOSC) - Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is a federally funded program authorized through Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, and since the year 2000, has been administered by the Governor's Office for Small Cities (GOSC) in New York State.

Through a competitive grant application process, municipalities with populations under 50,000 persons, such as Queensbury, may apply for funds to "revitalize neighborhoods, expand affordable housing and economic opportunities and/or improve community facilities and services," (see the GOSC web page at www.nysmallcities.com for additional information).

In August 2001, the Town of Queensbury was successful in obtaining a $400,000 grant for the housing improvement program. Queensbury's request was one of 211 applications. Only 95 of those applicants received an award.

As Lt. Governor Mary O. Donohue stated during her August 23, 2001 announcement at the Queensbury Town offices, "By making smart investments in New York's smaller communities, like the Town of Queensbury, we are helping to create a better quality of life for families across our state." To see what the Community Development Department is doing to address Queensbury's motto, "Home of Natural Beauty… A Good Place to Live," please see details on our Town of Queensbury Ward Four Revitalization Program, Affordable Housing Opportunities Strategy, and Fair Housing Plan pages.
