Main Street Project Concept Plan
The Town contracted a team of designers & engineers to assist in developing a vision for a new Main Street. Barton & Loguidice Engineers (B&L) and The Saratoga Associates (TSA) formed a partnership to provide these services to the Town. The Town formed an advisory body comprised of landowners, local business owners, economic development representatives from the Town and City of Glens Falls, as well as elected officials and NYS DOT representatives. Together, the design team and advisory body conducted a hands on workshop to bring concepts to paper - a design charette. The general public, corridor residents, and interested individuals all participated - providing suggestions for the team's landscape architects to translate to paper. Here's what they drew:

Western end of Main Steet

Eastern end of Main Street
These figures represent one vision of how the Main Street Corridor might be transformed into a vibrant mix of services, professional offices and housing. The advisory body and the designers realized that the corridor will continue to provide services to the traveling public-especially in proximity to the Northway. The corridor is likely to transition (west to east) from auto-oriented services to general service & retail to professional offices at the City line. These figures acknowledge this transition. The building form and placement, aesthetic treatments, and attention to detail are key to a First Class Gateway.

The concept plan depicts design elements that are transferable to any project. The design elements have in fact been adopted as the Main Street design guidelines for use by the Planning Board and developers. Some design elements are proposed for incorporation into the highway project- such as street trees and ornamental lighting. The land uses on the map are merely hypothetical and are shown to demonstrate the design concepts.
