The Town contracts with the Warren County SPCA who is responsible for local enforcement of NYS Ag & Markets laws (Article 7) and local dog control codes. They respond to calls of dogs running at large, dangerous dogs, animal bites and distressed wildlife.
The State requires that all dogs over four months of age be licensed, and that the licenses are renewed yearly. Licenses can be purchased at the Town Clerk’s office. Please have proof of rabies vaccination available. Warren County Public Health offers Rabies Immunization Clinics throughout the year.
A dog is not permitted to run at large unless it is restrained by an adequate leash, or accompanied by and under the full control of its owner or other responsible person. When a dog is seized for violations of the Town Code or the Ag. & Markets law, the dog is impounded and temporarily housed at the SPCA. Owners are required to pay a fine & boarding fee, and show proof of a valid license and rabies shot prior to release of the dog.
All calls regarding domestic dogs or cats are also handled by the Warren County SPCA: 518-793-4048.
If you are missing your pet, please check out the Warren County SPCA’s Facebook page.
The SPCA’s regular hours of service are Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5:00 PM. Emergency calls such as a suspected rabies concern or an animal bite outside of regular hours will be answered by the SPCA answering service and the officer on duty will be notified .
Residents are encouraged to contact the Warren County SPCA with any questions, concerns or complaints.
