Top 10 Queensbury Best Bets for October 2019!

Fall is officially here – and there are plenty of ways to savor the season in and around the town of Queensbury! Sample German fare at a local Oktoberfest, attend film screenings at the region’s biggest film festival, check out fun and informational workshops, and more! Oh…and don’t forget to enjoy the best this gorgeous season has to offer – walk, hike or drive the area to take in the most important of all the Queensbury best bets events: fall’s stunning colors!

1.       Lake George’s Oktoberfest & Fall Festival

The North Country’s biggest Oktoberfest and Fall Festival will be held Friday, October 11th through Sunday, October 13th on Canada Street in the village of Lake George. The festivities kick off Friday evening and will feature live music, German food vendors, a beer garden with drinks from Adirondack Brewery, children’s activities, and more. Admission to this family-friendly event is free!

2.       Adirondack Film Festival

Glens Falls will host the fourth Adirondack Film Festival at the Charles R. Wood Theater beginning Thursday, October 17th and continuing through Sunday, October 20th. This annual film fest is more than just movies – screenings will be accompanied by meet and greets, Q&A sessions with the films’ casts and creators, engaging panel discussions, and more. Tickets can be purchased online and in-person at the Wood Theater’s box office.

3.       West Mountain Fall Festival

Get your fall food fix at West Mountain’s annual Fall Festival. In addition to delicious refreshments like apple and pumpkin pies, apple cider, and cider donuts, there will be activities and entertainment for adults and children alike. Bring your family to West Mountain on Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13th for this free event and take in the fall foliage on a chairlift ride, go for a hayride, and visit the animals at the petting zoo.

4.       Landscapes for Landsake

From Saturday, October 12th through Monday, October 14th, the eighteenth annual art sale and exhibition to raise funds for the Agricultural Stewardship Association will take place within the Maple Ridge barn in Coila, outside of Cambridge. A wine and cheese reception will open the show on Saturday for $10 admission, and the gallery will be open for the remainder of the weekend with free admission. Over five dozen artists will be participating this year, and donating 50% of proceeds from their art sales to the ASA.

5.       Six Flags Great Escape’s Fright Fest

No list of Queensbury best bets would be complete without Fright Fest! This season’s Fright Fest at the Great Escape runs during weekends in October through Sunday, October 27th. The park is full of family-friendly fun during daytime hours, but in the evenings, Halloween-themed shows and scary attractions open for a frightfully good time, and you can enjoy your favorite rides in the dark!. Ticket prices vary and can be purchased online or at the gate.

6.       QSC’s First Annual CARnival

Queensbury’s Senior Citizens, Inc. are debuting this classic car show and fall celebration on Saturday, October 12th at their center on Bay Road in Queensbury. Stop by from noon until 6pm and check out classic cars while enjoying refreshments, music, and games. Tickets are only $1 and will help fund QSC’s programming and services for the community.

7.       Locktoberfest

Fort Edward’s annual fall festival at the Canal Street Marketplace will take place on Saturday, October 19th from 1-6pm. This free event showcases locally-made products including crafts, foods, and craft beer, and will feature live music, Old Fort House Museum tours, and a pumpkin carving and decorating contest. After dark, ghost tours with Benjamin Franklin will take place for $15/person.

8.       ARCC Business Expo

This annual business expo and showcase, held by the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, will take place at the Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls on Wednesday, October 16th. Get ready to network, check out new products, and create a conversation with over 80 local businesses. The event is free to attend.

9.       No-Bake Dog Treats Workshop

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make healthy snacks for your canine companion, this workshop is for you. This class will focus on making treats for your pet that can also double as a snack for you! The workshop will be held at SUNY Adirondack on Saturday, October 19th from 10-12pm, and the $20 cost includes the price of materials.

10.   Prepare Your Garden for Winter

Now that fall has officially arrived, many local gardeners are already thinking about winter and preparing their gardens for the colder months that lie ahead. This workshop, hosted by a master gardener program coordinator, will take place at the Holden Room in Crandall Public Library on Tuesday, October 15th from 6:30-8pm.
