Queensbury Union Free School System

It’s The First Day of School In Queensbury!

The summer has wound down and legions of anxious and excited kids and parents have been scouring the store aisles for the perfect sneakers, bookbags, notebooks and pencils. While we were enjoying our at summer season, the Queensbury Union Free School District was busy preparing for a new year with our local students.

The Queensbury school system is located on a 200-acre campus that provides a unique learning experience, with all of the school buildings on the same campus, allowing K-12 to attend school on a single campus at the foot of the Adirondacks. The campus includes every school building as well as an indoor pool, competition-level playing fields, wooded cross-country trails, co-learning labs, library/media centers, 21st-century technology in every classroom, and more.

The Queensbury Union Free School District Mission:

Empower all students to be lifelong learners, inspired to pursue their dreams and contribute to the global community.”

Ranked among the top school districts in the Capital Region both for academics and fiscal efficiency, Queensbury schools host more than 3,300 students with electives in English, math, science, social studies, technology, business, art, and music. Their Spartans athletic teams have almost 50 varsity, junior varsity, and freshman sports as well as 30 modified sports, including cross country, field hockey, football, cheerleading, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, basketball, bowling, ice hockey, alpine & Nordic skiing, wrestling, baseball, lacrosse, softball, and track & field. They also have numerous music and fine arts programs and many extracurricular clubs. Their career-focused programs include the International Baccalaureate, Early College Career Academy, Project Lead the Way, and P-TECH.

An important aspect of the learning process, technology is integrated into the experience for all students at Queensbury schools. It is used to enhance each child’s learning experience as well as her/his understanding of the world. Students have access to digital learning tools both in school and at home and students in grades 5-12 each receive a Chromebook free of charge at the start of every school year to use both in school and at home as well. The Queensbury School Technology Academy is focused on providing ongoing planning and development of a technology curriculum for students.

Queensbury has more than 260 teachers committed to meeting and exceeding expectations for students, parents and community. The school has many community partnerships and local residents of all ages can enjoy the playing fields, student productions, and first-class facilities. Nearly 60 organizations hold many different programs and activities on the school grounds each year. Students and staff also participate each year in local service projects, job-shadowing, and fundraisers, as well as serving on a more international level by participating as international ambassadors through foreign-exchange programs, visits with foreign diplomats and taking part in musical performances in Europe as well as a partnership with Saga City, Japan.

The Queensbury Union Free School District is a dynamic, active, and valuable part of our community, promoting education, health and wellness, diversity, and opportunities for all of our students. For more information on our local school district, visit their website.
