Library

crandall-park-libraryCrandall Library, located next door in downtown Glens Falls NY, has been in operation since 1892 and not only loans books to residents of Warren, Washington, Saratoga and Hamilton counties, but creates programs to culture, educate, and encourage a thriving community.

Crandall Library is a local gem, with a history that is just as interesting as the programs and services it offers. First established in 1892 by Henry Crandall, a self-made successful investor who himself could not read well, he provided $2,500 for the books and furniture, and donated the use of a room in his office building for the space. Said Crandall, “If I give money for a library, I want the books to be absolutely free to anybody who has interest enough in reading… I would be willing, to have the books go as far away as any person cared to come, even if it was as far as Quebec.” Crandall’s wish for free books and services to encourage a cultured community continues today!
